Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

1. Wash your tattoo 3 times a day for the first 3 days.

  • One to two hours after tattoo completion you may remove the wrap. Keep covered with loose fitting clothing and do NOT wrap your new tattoo again during the healing process. Use a fragrance-free liquid soap like Dial/Softsoap (do not use bar soap), make sure you wash your hands before touching your new tattoo.

  • Gently dab dry with clean towel (do not rub!) and let air dry for 1 minute. Apply a very thin layer of tattoo ointment (A&D or Aquaphor) Remember, a little ointment goes a long way! Do not oversaturate.

  • Some redness, swelling, and sensitivity is normal in the first 2-3 days. Your tattoo may also weep/bleed during the first few days of healing, be aware it may stain clothing/sheets

  • Showers are ok! Do not take baths or soak tattoo in standing water until fully healed. Exercise is ok, wash immediately after. Avoid gyms/direct contact with gym equipment until fully healed, cover with soaker pad and layers of clothing. (read more below)

2. After 3 days, wash your tattoo 2 times a day for 1 week.

  • At this point you may notice your tattoo start to peel like a sunburn/feel itchy, this is normal. Do not pick at/scratch, this can remove ink from the skin and cause scarring. You may gently slap to alleviate itchiness

  • Wash and dry in the same method described above. Apply a fragrance-free lotion (Curel/Eucerin) as needed throughout the day to keep the tattoo moisturized

  • Cover tattoo with layers of clothing if going to work/outside of home.

  • Your tattoo will be fully healed in 3-4 weeks.

*** THINGS TO AVOID WHILE HEALING ***

  • Never use bar soap, Vaseline, Neosporin, sunscreen, coconut/essential oils, or tanning oil on a healing tattoo.

  • Avoid wearing tight/restrictive clothing and long exposure to direct sunlight/tanning.

  • Avoid direct contact with animal hair/dander.

  • Do not go to the beach, swim, take baths, soak in standing water, or use saunas/steam rooms – this can cause serious infection.

  • Avoid gyms/direct contact with gym equipment. Cover tattoo with layers of clothing and soaker pad, wash immediately after.

  • Do not pick at, scratch, or shave overtop of tattoo.

  • Do not take aftercare advice from friends.

  • Do not oversaturate with tattoo ointment, it can cause irritation and improper healing.
